Many special concerns and considerations exist when the diagnosis of autism is given to a family member. There is, however, an evolution in the public perception of autism and autistic-like conditions. While there is an ongoing debate regarding causation, the tone has become more structured, focused and uplifting.
Within the discussion on causation, genetic factors weigh in, environmental toxicity factors are being evaluated and debated (with good reason), groups with differing points of view may have minor spats from time to time, but best treatments, remediation and support systems are becoming the focus of the collective conversation. This is extremely heartening as is the blossoming understanding that aspects of autism spectrum are actually assets rather than liabilities.
One website that strongly promotes the positive aspects of life in the midst of autism spectrum is
www.ICare4Autism.org (International Center for Autism Research and Education). The positive trend in the collective consciousness of the general public, is summed up in the following video which is posted on the website
www.ICare4Autism.org and was the product of the Illinois autism website
